Differences between The War of the Worlds (1953) and War of the Worlds (2005):
1953 movie, The War of the Worlds 2005 movie, War of the Worlds
took place in California (U.S.A.) took place near New York City (U.S.A.)
protagonist was 'Dr. Clayton Forrester' protagonist was 'Ray Ferrier'
movie was released in the era of the U.S.A. vs. Soviet Union 'Cold War' movie was released around 4 years after the 2001 terrorist attacks on the U.S.A.
humans tried dropping an atom bomb on the alien craft no human atom bombing was shown
movie title had the word "The" in it movie title had no word "The" in it
aliens came from Mars & drove their craft to arrive on Earth all at once aliens buried their craft underground on Earth centuries ago; alien pilots came from outside the solar system during the course of the film to reunite with their buried craft on Earth
alien craft were hovering discs with an overhead 'death ray' alien craft were walking 'Tripod' machines with 2 death rays on either side, and baskets underneath to hold human captives
aliens, their Tripods, & the 'probes' all had 3-color pattern on them (red-green-blue) aliens, Tripods, and probes had no red-green-blue pattern. Aliens had 2 eyes, Tripod had 3-horizontal white lights, 'probe' had 1 eye.
movie ended with dying alien's hand seen, but no alien face movie ending showed both dying alien's hand and face


Trivia: The original book by H.G. Wells was called "The War of the Worlds"
(with "The" in the book name).
The same was true for the 1938 radio drama and the 1953 movie.
However, the 2005 movie omitted "The" from its title, becoming simply "War of the Worlds"
