Video#39: Boardroom Surfboard Show 2012
California, USA.
October, 2012
This video was photographed indoors in October of 2012 in
California, United States. The video's subject is the almost-annual Boardroom International Surfboard Show. Inside the convention hall is a variety of artists, vendors, surfboard shapers, and classic cars and trucks. One of the classic cars is a so-called 'woodie' station wagon with a bunch of used surfboards stacked on top. The beat-up old car is covered with surf-related stickers, evoking an owner who has had many interesting surf trips in his lifetime. Also, a classic blue Chevrolet pickup truck owned by Bing Surfboards is parked inside the building. Another nice relaxing image is that of a young boy's hand holding a tiny male figurine attached to a surfboard. The boy moves the action-figure back-and -forth inside a scaled-down simulated moving blue ocean wave at the American Wave Machines booth. Elsewhere on the convention floor is a demo of a RERIP surfboard made from a more environmentally friendly surfboard foam constructed partly from biodegradeable sources. A longboard is seen with cool artwork glassed onto the deck. A few paintings of Spencer Reynolds' surf-related artwork hang on the wall. Finally, a trio of painters each presents their own artistic vision about surfing, simultaneously painting on the same very wide canvas.
