• The video below was shot on a sunny autumn day of 2011 at Mission Beach in San Diego, California, USA. [map]

• The swell was small (1-2 ft).

This video features:

• There are 3 shots:

Wide shot of a hotel that is located on a pier. The pier has pedestrian access. The hotel is called the Crystal Pier Hotel. It has about 20 cottages that are right on the pier! This place actually books up about 6 to 11 months in advance.

• Look closely at the start of the video in the lower right and you can see a few surfers on the other side of the pier.

• Look closely at the top right corner at start of video, and you can see a kite surfer's white kite bobbing up and down.

• The background sound includes a colorful man on the long sidewalk who pushes around a cart that has a ghetto blaster playing music. He talks to tourists about how good life is every day.

• At the end of the pier, there are several sport fishermen with fishing lines dangling in the water.

• The small waves collide softly with the pier's pilings and hit the beach. A nice reflection of the pier is seen in the water that is pooled on the beach.

• Next is a close-up of one of the pilings.
The shot was taken from the water end of the pier.

• It is a windy day, and the vibrations of the waves hitting the wooden pier also cause the camera to shake a little.

• One can see the incoming waves hitting one of the barnacle-encrusted pilings. The water drips down into the ocean.

• From this angle, the deep water appears to have a greenish hue.

• a piece of seaweed and a feather are sometimes seen floating in the water.

• The background sound includes waves lapping up against the pilings, but also has voices of various people who sightsee at the end of the pier.

• The 3rd and final shot is a wide shot looking down the pier as viewed from the end of the pier. One can see several pilings one behind the other. The incoming swells lap gently on the near pilings, and more strongly on the pilings near shore as the waves start to break.

• None of the waves is very large, but one can see the relatively larger swells hitting the pilings harder, causing more spray and froth.
