Video#25: Honolulu Swimming & Surfing
Oahu, Hawaii, USA.
December, 2008
This video was taken in 2008 and it shows various views of the city of Honolulu, Hawaii. The skyline of the city is seen from a southern location that shows the many condominiums and tall hotels behind world-famous Waikiki Beach. One of the hotels is a bright pink luxury resort called the Royal Hawaiian. We also see the deep beach sand, along with people wading in the ocean. Shorebirds are clustered near the shoreline. One of the tall buildings has a construction crane atop it. The day is warm, but cloudy, with an offshore breeze. There are gentle waves lapping against the shore. In the distance is the U.S. Navy port at Pearl Harbor. There is a tall red and white communication tower on a spit of land. A sailboat is seen far away. Also seen is a private sailboat marina with many sailboat masts rising upward. Near shore, as the waves come in, there are people having fun on paddle boards, stand-up paddle boards (SUP's), and surfboards. Many of the surfers are riding longboards since the waves are not very large this day. The surfers ride their boards almost up to a footbridge that crosses a water channel on the beach. Waikiki beach is where many people learn to surf for their first time. Sometimes one can see dangerous submerged rocks that become exposed whenever a wave's trough passes by. The water is a beautiful aquamarine color, combined with patches of deeper blue. On the beach, there are many large canopies and umbrellas in bright blue and yellow colors. The fronds of palm trees are being blown by the wind, and sway gently to and fro.
